From the Neolithic up until the present, Hârsova has been fortunate for her geographic position, her natural resources, her fresh water supply, and the possibility of relations with those on the other side of the Danube as well as the mainland interior. This explains the presence of important archaeological sites in the district.
The oldest site is Neolithic and Chalcolithic of the "tell" category, which research has shown to be of great importance in understanding the evolution of prehistoric cultures. Archaeological research has afforded essential information on specific other sites, such as a Roman-Byzantine city and fortress, Roman necropolis., as well as a Gete settlement and its necropolis. There are other lesser-known sites such as a settlement from The Bronze Age, a settlement from the Second Iron Age as well as medieval sites and Necropolis.
