One of the defining traits of the Gumelnita culture is the production of ceramics and especially the production of vases. The Gumelnita population of the tell used a great quantity of vessels which accounts for the diversity of techniques in ceramics and the perfect symmetry of shapes. These works, however bold, were nonetheless standardized. Only specialized craftsmen, with knowledge passed down from one generation to the next, could achieve the technical prowess, high-temperature baking, aesthetic quality, and precise finish of the vases discovered there.
