- Apothecary jars
Made of glazed earthenware, stoneware or faience, a number of jars used for preparing and storing ointments were found aboard both wrecks. They demonstrate the existence of the practice of preparing remedies aboard ship, and underscore the importance and the variety of drugs that were taken along on voyages. In addition, they shed light on the changes in shape of these vessels that took place over a half century, as well as the existence of supply networks that were different for the two frigates.
