When it was founded in the 6th century BCE, Lattara appeared to be taking over from settlements that had been implanted around the end of the Bronze Age and – for certain areas around the Mauguio lagoon several hundred meters away – the early Iron Age. Nevertheless, several settlements contemporary with Lattara (6th century BCE – late 1st century CE) have been identified in the vicinity of the town.
