- Rehabilitating the Mosul Cultural Museum
- Restoring the Building
First elements
Together with the Iraqi teams and in coordination with all the partners, the World Monuments Fund (WMF) set up a project in 2018 to restore the building designed by the architect Mohamed Makiya. The project to rehabilitate the Mosul Cultural Museum thus moved from stabilisation to rehabilitation of the building, in addition to the restoration of the works of art by the teams of the Mosul Cultural Museum and the Musée du Louvre.
Mission and objectives
The project aims to restore the functional beauty of the site while modernising it to make it as sustainable as possible. It also aims to revive the museum as an essential part of the city, valuable in many ways to the people of Mosul as a living centre for culture and education.
The WMF and the partners have together developed a design process that includes evaluating and assessing the site's condition. But it also includes an in-depth study for the rehabilitation based on the structural conditions of the building and its historical and architectural importance.
