Immediately after the low entrance to the Hillaire Chamber, the surfaces of the vault and walls are decorated with engravings. The non-animal traces include a vulvar sign and are found mainly high up and low down, while a dozen animals – particularly mammoths – are found at head height.

The Rhinoceros Panel depicts four clearly individualised rhinoceros which follow each other, and on the left-hand wall a large rhinoceros emerges from an alcove. The head is drawn with care and on the stomach vertical scratches indicate the enigmatic stripe seen in other animals in the cave. The group is, therefore, similar to the red rhinoceros frieze on the Panel of Positive Hand Prints.
