Structure of the Engraved Horse

On the clay ledge that surrounds the Hillaire Chamber, beneath the Panel of the Engraved Horse and Mammoth, a pile of blocks lies close to a group of stalagmites. These blocks were intentionally brought and deposited in this location: they make up an anthropogenic structure similar to that described beneath the Red Panels. Geomorphologic research has enabled the source of these blocks to be determined: they come from the base of the stalagmitic pendant of the Stepping Stone.
