Rhinoceros Alcove

On the far right of the Reindeer Panel, there is a niche about the size of a standing adult just before the entrance to the Megaloceros Gallery. The left-hand wall depicts the figure of a large black rhinoceros (1.10 m long), drawn in a dynamic pose with its rear legs oriented towards the front as if it was leaping out of the cavity. The very long horn indicates that this is a female. Two torch smears are visible at the base of the wall, to the right and left of the alcove.
