The left-hand end of the red rhinoceros frieze ends in a cornice around 1.7 m from the cave floor. The surface is covered by a film of ochre brown clay and is clearly distinguished from the remainder of the panel, which is considerably lighter. The clay has covered some of the incisions and only the deepest can be seen on the photos. The most visible lines for an observer positioned on the pathway (more than 3 m from the panel) are located above the first red rhinoceros of the frieze. The engravings then run in an uninterrupted fashion for around 3 m to the left.
