Once inside the cave, the prehistoric porch gave access directly into the Brunel Chamber and the Chamber of the Bear Hollows, which are completely unlike each other except in terms of their large size. The flatness of the clay floors of the Chamber of the Bear Hollows form a direct contrast with the stalagmitic chaos of the Brunel Chamber. This flat floor offers excellent access. There are numerous indicators of occupancy and passage here (bear trails, hearths etc.) but all are minor in scale. It is only at the limit of this chamber (moving inward into the cave) that the walls show traces of human activity (the Panther Panel and Abbreviated Rhinoceros).
