Facing right, this mammoth is almost complete; the back, rump, tail and legs separated by an arched ventral line are visible. The dorsal hump and contour of the head are formed by natural fissures. The execution technique is highly original. Here, the natural light brown colour of the clay has been spread manually across the body and surrounded by a black line, itself emphasised by a lightly scraped or "wiped" stripe in order to reveal the white of the limestone.
