A sacred standing stone, known as a baetyl, used as a grave wedge. North temple II site. Excavations P. Butterlin, site manager D. Beyer, 2007. Only two baetyls have been found in Mari to date. They are the oldest known baetyls in the Near East. Limestone. Surviving height approx. 50 cm.
