Re-excavated in 2004 as part of a stratigraphic study of the room, only fragments of the podium decoration were visible having suffered extensive damage in the intervening 80 years. The spiral shown, originally yellow in colour, is bordered along both lengths (south side shown here) by a light red ochre band, and stands out against a dark red ochre background, with remains of faux marbling, dark blue with red veins and a black border.
