Carte de la Gaule sous le Proconsulat de César, 1861

8108

This is the first map published by the Commission de Topographie des Gaules (CTG). It shows Julius Caesar’s military campaigns during the Gallic Wars. It gives an overview of the legions’ movements (shown by the red lines) and allows the reader to identify, extremely precisely, the routes they took. The symbols used on the map are the same as those used in the Dictionnaire archéologique de la Gaule that accompanies it, and that was also published by the CTG.
The map was made by combining the base maps produced by the Dépôt de la Guerre.
