This album was made to unite more than 350 archive materials relating to the excavations carried out around Mont-Auxois, ordered by Napoleon III. It includes maps, surveys, sections and plans, the majority of which were produced by the topographical engineer Paul Millot between 12 May 1861 and 7 September 1862. At the front it is signed by Félicien de Saulcy, president of the Commission de Topographie des Gaules, who states that it is a gift from him to the Musée de Saint-Germain.
