Epigraphic record taken from notebook 12 by General Creuly

7867

This drawing by Casimir Creuly, a member of the Commission de Topographie des Gaules and an eminent epigraphist, is a copy of an ancient monument in Agen. At the time it was drawn, epigraphy was beginning to make use of scientific methods, as can be seen in this record which indicates the date of the copy, the place the inscription was discovered and where it was conserved. The drawing indicates the precise dimensions of the letters, margins, line spacing and the entire monument.
