The Commission de géographie historique de l'ancienne France, created by ministerial decree on 20 January 1880, took over the work of the Commission de Topographie des Gaules (CTG). It sent this letter to scholars in France, asking for their documentary contributions. The letter explains that the CGHAF is continuing the work begun by the CTG.
