This volume of the Dictionnaire archéologique, published in 1919, was the last produced by Émile Cartailhac. Since the 1890s, this archaeologist from Toulouse had been responsible for completing the dictionary begun by the Commission de Topographie des Gaules. He died in 1921 and the heavy task of completing the dictionary and reaching the letter “z” fell to Salomon Reinach, Camille Jullian and Émile Espérandieu. The dictionary was finally completed in 1924.
