View of the workshops at Meudon in the 1860s, when they were led by Jean-Baptiste Auguste Verchère de Reffye, an ordnance officer of Napoleon III. These workshops were used to develop new arms such as the mitrailleuse, restore archaeological objects discovered during the excavations at Alise-Sainte-Reine and reconstruct ancient arms.
