Portrait of Salomon Reinach

Photographie de Salomon Reinach
7843

This portrait, whose photographer is unknown, shows a young Salomon Reinach, leaning on the balustrade of the terrace of the château of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. A former student of the École française d'Athènes, Reinach was appointed assistant curator at the musée des Antiquités nationales in 1886, and as such was responsible for the museum’s library. In 1893, he became deputy curator, and in 1902, following the death of Alexandre Bertrand, curator. It was also he who took on the heavy task of ensuring the administrative and scientific supervision of the final volumes of the Dictionnaire archéologique de la Gaule.
