This engraving, produced after a drawing by Frédéric Lix, was published in black and white in Le Monde illustré on 14 August 1875. It shows an event organised by Alexandre Bertrand, director of the Musée des Antiquités nationales, at the Camp des Loges, at the far end of the park at the château of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Described as a “science fair” by journalists of the time, this day was an opportunity to experiment with reconstructions of war machines, produced by Verchère de Reffye. This event, designed for the general public, underlines the museum’s concern to educate and inform.
