The Albums noirs take their name from their black covers. They contain topographical documents and are conserved at the musée d'Archéologie nationale. The documents, primarily visual records stuck on sheets of paper, are organised by region, then commune, then site. The albums were probably designed based on documents collected by the Commission de Topographie des Gaules. Thanks to their removable binding, content was added to the albums as recently as the 1980s. Album number 5 is dedicated to sites in the Côte-d’Or region and contains a considerable amount of information about Alise-Sainte-Reine, in original documents and copies taken from publications.
