Bibracte, the ancient capital of the Aedui people located on Mont Beuvray, was excavated by Jacques-Gabriel Bulliot between 1867 and 1895. Jacques-Gabriel Bulliot became a correspondent of the Commission de Topographie des Gaules in 1865. In 1869, 1871, 1872 ,1873 and 1875, he sent some of his finds to the musée gallo-romain, often through the intermediary of Napoleon III or the commission. The objects shown here, a gift from the emperor in 1871, illustrate that this was an important town for handicraft and trade, and home to miners, blacksmiths and coin minters.
