Mas d'Azil carved disk with cow and bullock

Rondelle découpée à la vache et au veau du Mas d'Azil. Abris sculptés de la préhistoire.

Disc discovered by Marthe and Saint-Just Péquart during excavations of the Magdalenian layers of the Mas d'Azil Cave at Mas d'Azil (Ariège). On one side one can make out a female auroch, and on the other a young bison.

Object on display in the form of two casts (obverse and reverse), in the Palaeolithic Gallery of the National Archaeology museum - Domaine national de Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
