Female figure known as the "Berlin Venus"

Représentation féminine dite "La Vénus de Berlin" (moulage). Abris sculptés de la Préhistoire.
5934

Rounded female figure holding an object in the right hand. Block cut from the wall after its discovery in 1910. Dated to the Gravettian, this block from the Laussel Shelter (Marquay, Dordogne) was sold to a Berlin museum, but disappeared when the city was bombed during World War II. Fortunately, a cast of the figure survived and is on display at the Musée d'Aquitaine in Bordeaux.
