Horse's head

Cheval broutant. Abris sculptés de la Préhistoire.
5924

Head of a horse with open mouth and visible teeth. This piece features two stylistic elements specific to Roc-aux-Sorciers: the treatment of the eye in triangular relief and the tension of the muzzle that allows both nostrils to be seen from the front. Stone block from the collapsed ceiling of the Taillebourg Cave, a sculpted shelter at Roc-aux-Sorciers (Angles-sur-l'Anglin, Vienne).

Magdalenian block discovered in the rubble of the excavation carried out by Lucien Rousseau, by Suzanne de Saint-Mathurin in the 1950s, and currently on display in the Palaeolithic Gallery of the National Archaeology Museum / Domaine national de Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
