This aerial photograph shows the ruins of the tower of Babylon near Baghdad, Iraq, in their current state. The square plan of the tower is clearly visible, as is the ramp that led to the top. Overgrown with vegetation, the foundations are visible in the landscape. To the north are the ruins of the northern palace built by King Nebuchadnezzar II who reigned from 605 to 562 BCE.
