This exceptional school tablet dating from the 2nd millennium BCE includes a mathematical exercise that teaches students to calculate the length of the diagonal of a square. The length of the side of the square is noted at the top left. The student multiplied it by a remarkably accurate approximation of the root of 2 (first number along the diagonal) and then wrote the result (second number below the diagonal).
