This contract is placed under the protection of the gods, in particular the god Nabu, represented by a snake-dragon, patron of scribes.
Kudurrus are monuments with legal value, engraved with a deed, and intended to be placed in a temple. This black diorite kudurru is dated to the reign of Marduk-nadin-ahhe (between 1100 and 1083 BCE). Found south of Baghdad in the ruins of a palace and brought back by the botanist Michaux in 1786, it was the first epigraphic document in cuneiform to reach Europe.
