The gift of an irrigated field

Canal d'irrigation en Irak
8321

The town where the land given by a father to his daughter is located, according to the text on the “caillou”, falls outside the direct authority of Bit-Ḫa(m)ban province since it stands on the limit between its jurisdiction and that of the district of Bit-Tunamissah. It is located on the edge of a canal used to supply water through irrigation. As it separates the town of Kar-Nabu, located on the left bank, from Hudada on the right bank, the canal also acts as a territorial marker. The eastern edge of the field ran along the bank of the canal. Sharing of water and access to it was regulated in Babylonia.
