The challenging terrain and the nature of the remains archaeologists expected to find - visible on the surface - counted against an evaluation using a mechanical digger. The investigation began with an airborne LiDAR scan to provide an overall picture of the site. Field walking surveys were then carried out based on the data acquired and after minimal plant clearance provided the right conditions to make photographic and topographic records of the remains.
