The furnace was supplied with fuel, probably bagasse, the fibrous residue remaining after sugarcane are crushed, through an opening. From the rectangular combustion chamber, the hot air circulates through a flue leading to a structure thought to be the structural surface of the Gimart battery. This system of partitioned vats improved and replaced the Adrienne battery, which demanded more manpower to process the juice.
