Foetidia mauritiana (La Possession/Saint-Paul, Palaeoforest of the Rivière des Galets)
3062

Tree no. 1 in the palaeoforest may be a Foetidia mauritiana. Also known as stinkwood, this species endemic to the Mascarene islands is now quite rare. The diameter of the tree suggests it formed the canopy, along with other species, on the bed of the Rivière des Galets, long before humans arrived on the island.
