Peppercorn (Saint-Paul, Route des premiers Français)

Peppercorn (Piper sp.)
3049

Found in screened deposits from excavations carried out in 2018, this peppercorn may have been grown and even processed on the site of the Route des premiers Français. The remains have a similar morphology to indigenous pepper (Piper borbonense) which may have acclimatised to wet woodland on the western coast.
