This planisphere was smuggled to Italy by Alberto Cantino, a spy in the pay of the Duke of Ferrara. It shows the latest discoveries made by Portuguese sailors; they were jealously guarded secrets. This is the first representation of the Mascarene islands, which appear under their Arabic toponyms: Réunion is "Dina Morgabin", Mauritius "Dina Arobi" and Rodrigues "Dina Morare".
