Since the island was always vulnerable to epidemics, the authorities opened establishments to isolate and treat the sick, but also to quarantine travellers as a preventive measure. Smallpox hit the island in 1729, 1789, 1827 and 1851, cholera in 1819 and 1854, the plague in 1828, 1899 and 1926, typhus in 1863 and malaria in 1858. This recent comic book is about the Spanish influenza epidemic of 1919 on Réunion.
