Barachois dock in Saint-Denis

Print by L. A. Roussin, 1847

The breakwater formed by the cyclone in 1829 was consolidated; the dock was transformed into a port, closed on the northern side by the breakwater, to the west by a landing stage with a narrow entry, to the east by a sloped surface that served as a dry dock for launches, and to the south by a mooring quay with two stone ramps leading up to the port wharf.
