Mafate sulphurous spring

Mafate sulphurous spring
11451

Print by L. Maillard, 1861.

The settlement of Mafate, the most secluded cirque, began in the 1830s and 1840s; this lithography by Maillard suggests the site, which can still only be reached by foot, nonetheless soon gained the favour of middle-class visitors.
