The new village of Cilaos was centred around the church built at the end of the 1850s. This photograph was published in 1902 by J.-M. Mac-Auliffe in his work Cilaos, pittoresque et thermal (Cilaos: a picturesque spa resort). The church took its current form at the end of the 1930s when it was rebuilt.
