The cavity is divided into two separate areas with, on the left, the entrance to the pit dug to a depth of almost six metres (the entrance could be closed by a low dry-stone wall) and a shelter with the remains of a hearth on the right. A small group of people could shelter here for the night as they waited to fetch ice blocks and store them in the pits.
