The powder magazine in Saint-Paul, built in 1724, is one of the oldest stone buildings on the island. An initial archaeological operation in 2013 revealed the original layout, followed by a larger archaeological investigation in 2018. Building archaeology plays a vital role in improving our knowledge of this heritage. It allows archaeologists to put a timescale on construction, which almost always provides new information on the evolution of buildings over time.
