A remarkable group of dead tree trunks preserved in river sediment was revealed by extreme flooding following the passage of a cyclone. A survey and sampling in 2013 allowed archaeologists to reconstruct the former primal forest in the Bas region of the island, which had existed before the arrival of human beings.
