Lazaretto no. 2 (Saint-Denis, Grande Chaloupe)
11352

The Lazaretto no 2 in La Grande Chaloupe is a sanitary complex used to quarantine and treat contract workers (indentured labourers) and travellers. An exploratory test trench in the cemetery in 2012 revealed valuable information about the life of its occupants. The investigation produced significant results and a new cross-disciplinary and multi-institution archaeological project is currently in the pipeline.
