A positive evaluation carried out in 2012 on the site of the former Grand Fond plant led to the island’s first rescue excavation in 2014. Besides adding to what we know from other sources and helping to reconstruct the history of a sugar estate, this operation provided a valuable body of technical and architectural data on the industrial archaeology of Réunion.
