Samples were taken from 17 of the 50 trees identified in the Palaeoforest . Tree no.12 was one of several that provided radiocarbon data suggesting the primary forest in Les Bas was alive at some point between the 2nd and 6th centuries, or one thousand years before humans arrived on Réunion.
