Samples were taken from 17 of the 50 trees identified in the Palaeoforest . Tree no.12 was one of several that provided radiocarbon data suggesting the primary forest in Les Bas was alive at some point between the 2^nd and 6^th centuries, or one thousand years before humans arrived on Réunion.
