Human bones were discovered in 1983 in two shelters close to the Ilet-à-Cordes and in Tapcal forest. Although this may have been a marron burial site, excavation conditions - the involvement of the police department rather than archaeologists - destroyed field data vital to gaining an overall understanding of the site and made it impossible to interpret the function of the burials or the origin of the deceased.
