Most archaeological artefacts found during field investigations - evaluations, test trenches and extensive excavations - are washed in water before being recorded and packed. They include bones, ceramic ware and glass. However some artefacts, such as fragile glass, plaster and metals, need to undergo a specific cleaning process to ensure their preservation. Bakery cooling racks are handy for drying artefacts!
