A shelter located at an altitude of more than 2000 metres at the centre of the Rivière des Remparts suggests the site was periodically occupied by hunters or marron slaves. The occupants of the Caverne Lépinay appear to have eaten game, mostly kid, on the site, and they were probably accompanied by dogs since dog-tooth marks were found on bones also displaying butchery marks.
