Bivouac known to have been used by explorers of the volcano (Piton de la Fournaise), the Caverne des Lataniers contained remains of animals eaten by its occupants, including sheep and goats, birds, bovines and fish. Cat bones, probably from marron or feral cats, are very likely to come from cats that scavenged remains left behind by humans.
