This tractor waiting to enter the Bois Rouge sugar refinery in November 2020 shows how widespread mechanised sugar cane farming had become by the end of the 2000s. Although hand-cutting is still practiced in many parts of the island, tractors and lorries have almost entirely replaced traditional carts pulled by oxen.
